Starting with BL!TZ! issue 5 I am putting forward the following proposal as a competition for you to get involved in!
Think of it as Iron Chef meets Blood Bowl
I have seen it run elsewhere but changed it up for our needs.
As with IronChef, IronBowl is NOT just about painting skill. The best in the world who fails the challenge objectives, will lose to a 5-year old with a creative use of the challenge.
Anyone can win!!!
So we encourage everyone to enter. If you think you can meet the turn-around on the challenge (~6 weeks) then sign up by replying here!
Entry into the IronBowl Challenge is open to anyone who wants to enter. If you don't think you can meet the deadlines and/or rules, please be considerate of others who do commit to the process. This will work really well if everyone is committed. Nothing will be outrageous in terms of deadlines and I am hoping for 6-week brackets to give plenty of time for the article to be built around the challenge.
Each round a challenge will be issued to participants. The challenge itself will largely be theme-based. Example themes could be as simple as "undead", "Orange" or "Blitz".
If the theme isn't incorporated you will be KO'ed and your opponent progresses to the next round.
Participants will face off against each other in a head to head format. Pairings will be drawn randomly each round. If there are weird numbers of people for a straight elimination, wildcard progression to the next round and possibly byes will be used until a "power of 2" is achieved (16, 32, 64, etc).
You will know who your opponent will be PRIOR to knowing the theme. These pairings will be posted online for the first round, then in the round summary article of the BL!TZ! issue for each subsequent round.
Each round will coincide with an issue of BL!TZ!
There will be a deadline given for submissions to be received, failure to meet the deadline results in a KO. Allowing for the article to be put together each round, photos, judging, etc, we hope to have a 6 week painting/modelling deadline.
Miniatures submitted must be NEWLY painted and not pulled from your old shelf stock. Miniature photos should not be posted online for the sake of fairness UNTIL the issue of BL!TZ! is released in which it appears. We don't want people forfeiting because of what you have done . . . or stealing your idea and improving upon it.
By all means discuss and trash-talk your way through the round, but remember that if you reveal anything to your opponent it is on your own head!
Before the round of 16, a picture should be emailed through.
From the round of 16 onwards we will require miniatures to be mailed in. (see "The Prize" below)
All submissions should be sent through with a couple of sentences about the miniature and how you used the challenge on the miniature.
The round of 16, 8, 4 and 2 will have miniatures sent to the participants and theme is to be applied.
The miniatures sent back during these rounds will form the basis for the prizes in the IronBowl Challenge . . .
. . . and of course the winner will be crowned IronBowl Challenge Champion
So there you have it. Nothing too onerous.
If you think you can do the following we encourage you to have a crack at it:
- finish a figure in 6 weeks
- follow the challenge task
- find a creative way to incorporate the challenge
