Descent 2nd Ed ala Virral

Post by Virral »

Howdy folks,

With Euc Bowl behind me for another year, I find myself with a sucking void of not-being-too-busy-with-hobby-crap that needs to be filled pronto!

After running Zombicide and Mansions of Madness, I'm keen to try out the new edition of one of my favourite games... Descent: Journeys in the Dark!

I'm looking for four hardy souls to step up and join the fun. Participation will be similar to previous games (I'll need you in thread a couple of times a week by preference, but each turn should really only take you a minute or two), and since I've yet to play this version of the game myself I can hardly say you've got to have played it but it would be very good to read the rules before we start!

I will take the part of the evil Overlord, and the other players will step up as individual heroes. Because I'm an obsessed hoarder, I have the conversion kit for the game meaning we have every hero from the game past and present to choose from. But rather than overwhelm you with options, this is what we'll do:

Signing Up:

1) Express your interest
2) Claim one of the four roles (Fighter, Healer, Mage, Scout)
3) I'll give you three hero choices chosen at random
4) You choose one

Since there are four players and balance is a good thing, we'll only have one of each roles. So if someone has already claimed Fighter, you can't be one too. Sorry :P

The Campaign

The quest book comes with a full campaign, and if things go well I'd love to work our way through the whole thing. Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves though, to start with the first quest "First Blood" and if people are digging it then we can continue.

I do have the conversion kit for all the various monsters, but to start with at least we'll stick to the critters that come in the box.

Things before we start:

1) I need to work out how we're going to do the dice rolls. Current options are

a) We use Orokos and standard D6, with a chart of what is what. This will be a bit shitty but I can't find any online dice rollers that let you use custom faces.
b) We set up a thread on Boardgamegeek (who have a fancy custom dice roller thingy embedded in their forum) for dice rolls. We could use it like Orokos, but instead we'd just link to our post there showing the results. Better than A) but kind of rude I guess?
c) I do all the dice rolls using an app, and give you updates. Easiest solution generally, but will slow things down a bit.

2) I need to get all the files and images ready in Photoshop. This isn't hard, but it does take a bit of time since I need to transcribe a buttload of info from cards into a cheat sheet I can access from work (carrying around a deck of cards for Zombicide felt pretty silly).

3) People! We can go with less than 4 if there isn't enough interest, but 4 would be best.
Nothing to see here!

Okaluk and Rakash - Dog Rider (extra speedy, 4 move on top of whatever else you do plus one off AoE revive of KO heroes)

I'll take Okaluk and Rakash. Faster movement to move around and distribute heals.

Does the dog get to attack or just a mount?

It's not a familiar, just means you get loads of free move (so you can move 4 spaces and then attack twice where others have to choose between move and attaking)

Ahahahaha! Yes very true.

I'd only take that one if I can use it on my fellow heroes tho...

"Why are you hitting yourself Rabid? Now why are you hitting Olaf??"
