Virral Descends Again (Descent 2E PbP)

Post by Virral »

Hi all,

One of the items on my Kickstarted Desk of Shame is Descent 2nd Edition plus a couple of expansions, and I primed them today, ready to start painting!

To celebrate, I'm going to run another Descent play by post game. It's open to anyone who'd like to sign up, first in best dressed. Please don't sign up unless you can commit to checking the thread at least once a day on average, I don't expect anyone to be at their desk 24/7 but a quick games a good game!

If you are interested in joining, post here and claim one of the four archetypes:

Scout - Mathfuric
High Mage Quellion the Geomancer - Fassbinder
Avric Albright the Apothecary - Redcard (henceforth to be referred to as Monkey for all Descent related matters)
Reynhart the Worthy Berserker - OneEye

There can only be one of each type. Once that's done, head over to the Descent 2e reference thread to pick a character and class for your archetype.

When picking a character/class combo, please be aware that skills which happen in reaction to Monsters during the Overlords turn (such as the Knight's skill "Advance") are hard to manage in this environment and may not be as useful to you as some other skills. If a class depends heavily on this kind of skill, I don't recommend taking it.

Also know that in the last game the four classes were: Disciple, Wildlander, Knight and Runemaster. I don't really want to reuse any of these classes in the interests of variety, but at most I'll accept one being reused.

Things that have changed since the last game:

1) We'll be playing the Labyrinth of Ruin campaign, so all new quests this time around.
2) We might also incorporate the Rumors (extra quests) from Lair of the Wyrm
3) As implied heavily by the above, those two expansions will be including meaning additional monsters, heroes and items etc.
4) This game will not be using the conversion kit. We will only use Descent 2e Heroes and Monsters, from the base game and the two expansions.

Alrighty, if you're interested in signing up you know what to do!

I really like the look of Alvic Albright though but I agree about shuffling things around (hence why I picked Warrior) so i'll stick with that.

Are the rules much different as the third healer chick talks about potion cards being turned over and such which sounds different.

There are changes but that isnt one of them. When you use a potion you turn over the card to show its been used. That just means she magically restores used potions so they can be used again that map.

Ah yeah. I need to consider it as a board game rather than a forum game. Sorted. Can you link the pdf for the rulebook or is it the previous one with an update sheet?

I looked through the Healer characters and they are really good, so happy to take the healer spot leaving the scout on open.

I am open to input as to which Mage works best in the party. The geomancer sounded a bit pants, but reading the cards he sounds kind of cool. Is it a pain in the arse managing the stone(s)?

Geo stones will be a mild hassle but not that bad. People who go after you will just have to remember where you have placed them.

Green dice are ok not great. Will set up new dice table with them shortly.

Adds a pretty reliable surge plus small damage I think

Avric and Jana are good choices I think, on the geomancer, its ok but damn the Runemaster was a killing machine last game. If we were going to have a double up of a player type, I would suggest taking the Runemaster.

For me, Reynhart the Worthy as a Beastmaster? What do you think?
