Russell Drysdale Sevens 2008

Post by vimes »

For two years now Babs and myself have hosted a Blood Bowl Sevens tourney on the Central Coast, and this year will be no different. It will held, as usual, on Easter Friday (21 March) in Erina. Last year we had 14 coaches particpate in the tournament (which was won by Thomsy) and this year we're hoping for a few more.

The up-to-date rules will be posted at Babs' old website http://www.geocities.com/blood-bowl/index2.htm, (just click on the SEVENS link) soon-ish. But in the meantime, here's a brief run down.
* Resurrection format, swiss.
* Six matches, with six turns each half.
* 750k start-up, to buy players, coaching staff, re-rolls and skills.
* Maximum of one skill per player.
* All positional allowances have been halved (rounded down), with the exception of linemen, of which there can be a maximum of 10. (Eg: Human teams will be allowed a maximum of 2 blitzers and not 4, ogre team can start with 3 ogres not 6.)
* Halflings and Goblin sides are permitted, but can only have one treeman or troll in the side.
* No player will be allowed stat increases, and no big guy can take a skill which requires a double to take.
* No star players.

For something just a little different, coaches will be allowed one random draw from the Magic Items deck at the start of each game.

The cost will be $7.50 and we're aiming for a 9am start.

Bear in mind, seeing it's a public holiday, very little will be open, however, conveniently there's a Maccas in walking distance of the venue, and it will be open.

And for the record, I'll be taking Skaven. Cheers!

Russel Drysdale is the street Vimes lives on where the tournament was first held in his apartment. If nothing else it sounds like the most officious cup available in Australian Blood Bowl :-D

I'll be there with Wood Elves, though my Necro have been undercoated, things could change closer to the date.

Russell Drysdale is a famous Australian abstract artist, who used to paint a lot of outback scenes with very elongated representations of people. As Lictor points out, it's also the street that I live on in Gosford, where we held the first of these one day sevens tourneys back in 2006. (It was a tight fit having four games of BB going on at once at the flat...)

Just as well I moved to East Gosford. Had we held it at my old place in Umina it might as ended up as the "Winifred Avenue Sevens". Just doesn't quite have the same ring to it...

Seeing Babs hasn't updated the site as yet, I'd thought I'd post a modified word version of the rules here. At the moment, there are a couple of teething problems, but we're still hoping for the tourney to go ahead on Easter Friday as planned.

Stay tuned for further details.

Okay Sevens fans, I have a venue for the tournament. Knowing that quite a few of you love to have a drink whilst playing, I have arranged for the tourney to be held at the lovely Central Coast Leagues Club in beautiful downtown Gosford on Easter Friday. We'll be playing upstairs in the snooker room. The Club is a five minute walk from Gosford station (if that) and is located directly behind Blue Tongue Stadium (home of the mighty Mariners). It shouldn't be that hard to find it.

I'll also have a prize (maybe two), possibly a team for the winner, and I'll most likely lower the cost seeing I'm only paying for prizes and not the venue.

The club opens at 9am, and I'm looking to get underway around 9.30am, hoping to finish around 6pm.

To save me a bit of time, all those interesting in coming along, please post some details here, namely what race you're thinking of playing, and a team name if you've thought of one. Cheers!

I am interested and will check with Mrs Clay...

Race? No idea...

I have Elf, Dwarf, Orc, Human, Undead, Halfling and Nurgle ready to go...

I may take Nurgle... sounds like they could be fun with the DPres and FA.

The main prize will definitely be a team, and I've lowered the cost to $5.

Sounds like fun, but unfortunately the location is impractical for me without a car (something like 2 hours each way via train).
Nothing to see here!

Nurgle playing sevens, this should be interesting...

Thanks for letting me know Thomsy. If there's an odd number I'll put you in for the bye in the first round.

Knowing the Leagues club, the only entrance open at 9am should be the one on the stadium side. I'll see everyone attending bright and early on Friday morning!

Firstly, I just wanted to say thanks for everybody for coming up on yet another miserable day weatherwise on the Central Coast. Mind you, rain outside does make it perfect Blood Bowl weather inside! Having fourteen players show up was really great, and I really appreciate the effort some of the players made to get to the coast. A pity we didn't get all six games in on the day, but by the looks of all of you, it appears you had a great time. That and the Leagues club no doubt did quite well with drink and food sales throughout the day! :-D

I'd also like to thank Clay for the help with the results and the spreadsheet. I appreciated the hand to keep things moving along.

As for the teams involved, I was pleased to see a fair mixture. Skaven and Wood Elves had two coaches each, whilst Chaos Dwarves, Lizardmen, Necromantic, High Elves, Dark Elves, Pro Elves, Nurgle, Humans, Vampires and Orcs were all represented.

The winner for the RD sevens this year was Creature, who just pipped Lictor by 2 points. Geoff Watson came in third. Creature prooved that Chaos Dwarves are just as good in sevens as the more agile teams.

The rest of the placings were:
4th - Thomsy
5th - Garden Gnome
6th - Vimes
7th - Barks
8th - Josh Petch
9th - D'Arquebus
10th - Blue Chippie
11th - Clay
12th - Sangraal
13th - Shasta
14th - Connor

Most touchdowns scored: Lictor 16, Blue Chippie 12.
Most casualties: Creature 10, Clay & Thomsy 8.
Best defence: Thomsy 4, Clay & Creature 6.
Fewest casualties taken: Geoff Watson, Sangraal & Clay 3.

So, seeing we're getting so many to turn up for this one day event, we'll be running it again next year, whenever Easter may be. Cheers!
