[Mantic] DREADBALL

Post by Borzag »

I AM THE L-

.... wait, no, wrong Dredd sorry.

Anyway. Beasts of War found a preview for Mantic's latest project, Dreadball. Looks like a weird mix of handball and BB, in SPAAAAAAAAAAAACE.

http://www.beastsofwar.com/mantic-games ... dreadball/

NOTE: the BoW site pics are pretty much dead, so can't be linked. Sorry.

Anyway looks like it might be a goer, unless the price is as stated (I think WAU had it pegged at the $80 mark). Will have to keep an eye out.

Cheers!

we'll know more about Dreadball in just over 4 hours.

As the Dreadball site goes live and the Kickstarter project kicks off. I'll watch this with interest to see how it goes.

sounds like the box set has the Corporation and the Orks, with Forge fathers and the rat men coming out latter.
Also sounds like there will be some KS bonuses as well.

Cheers

I saw those on the beast of war site.

If you got to the Dreadball site you can see the count down is only a few hours away now.

http://www.dreadball.com/

so well get to see more of this game soon. It sounds interesting and if the KS project is good I may look at it. Sci-fi ball game should be interesting. It will draw alot of the Warpath players over to it [maybe]

Cheers

yeah the orks look great. Not sure on the Corporation [Tron Tek] look to "Space Marine" for me... then again they should be fun to paint up.

be interested to see how the ratmen look in this format and what other races will be planned. Considering that Warpath only has a few races currently and Pandora has only the Corporation and Ratmen.

Not sure on the Forge Fathers it all depends if they take after the Warpath look or not. [I hope not really don't like the look of the Forge father armour in Warpath.]

But a big thumbs up to the Orks they look fantastic.

Depending on the rest of the Orcs, I could see them on the Blood Bowl pitch. A little bit futuristic, but could fit in with an appropriate paint job. The space robots, not so much.

They could be Cyborks. I'd use them for BB for sure.

Couldn't be any worse than the Call of Cthulhu RPG Kickstarter that Chaosium is currently running (not affiliated with the Impact Cthulhu Team Kickstarter at all). It is to republish a classic boxed set Call of Cthulhu RPG adventure that has long since been out of print.

So far they:

1. Started the Kickstarter just before GenCon, resulting in no-one from the company logging on to answer questions or providing any updates for several days, despite the Kickstarter doubling its original goal in this time.
2. Had different amounts listed for shipping in the FAQ and in the main body of the front page.
3. Significantly increased the shipping amounts for some pledge levels after the Kickstarter had begun.
4. Had $10 shipping listed for a PDF-only pledge level.
5. Did not announce a first stretch goal until after the original amount had been more than doubled.
6. Listed this first stretch goal and 2 1/2 times the original goal.
7. Made the first goal the upgrading of maps and handouts, something that already should have been included when you are paying $90 + shipping for a boxed set.

I'm (barely) still pledging to get a print copy of the boxed set, but if this keeps up much longer I'll be dropping down to either the $15 electronic-only pledge level, or just the $1 pledge lvel. So if all Mantic have done is launch a little late they're still doing ok in my opinion!

Ouch Olaf, yeah I would pull out at that point if they are that disorganised now, I'd have serious doubts about getting the end goods.

That's one of the reasons I'm pimping out the reaper kickstarter everywhere I go. It's been exceptionally well planned the whole way and they actually seem to have a clue about what they are doing.

Chaosium have been around for many a year now, so I trust them in that regard to not simply disappear with my money. Apparently though they have a bit of a history for being late in their releases and also in paying their writers.

Reaper is definitely setting the bar at the moment though. The OotS Kickstarter was also pretty well done too, especially when it was just 1 guy doing it all and had to make up a lot of stuff on the fly as he didn't expect such a response (over $1m, 2nd highest Kickstater ever at the time).

OOTS for me set the bar. The graph, details and updates were so good I haven't seen anything at that level yet.

I'd say Reaper's has been better than that. Not quite a fair comparison though as it is multiple people vs 1 person. Reaper staff have been in constant communication with backers via the comments page (which currently has over 32,000 comments). OOTS was awesome for a 1 person effort.
