Human plog

Post by birdman37 »

With my "out of the box" Orc team all but done*, I've started preparation for their counterparts, the "out of the box" humans! Thanks to JoeKano's AusBowl painting comp, I picked a colour scheme and test model well ahead of the planned schedule, and was pretty chuffed with the result:
Image

So, with the team captain all sorted out, I now just have to paint up the remaining team members to the same standard!
Image

Hoo boy... wish me luck! Let's see if I can complete them before December 2015! :)

That's going to be a really nice looking team when your done. Great paint job especially considering its not a good model, it's so much harder to make a poor model look good than it is with a good mini.
Looking forward to seeing the team finished so hurry up and get painting ;)

Two questions: what's the teams name going to be? and what's with the two flings?

I was thinking "Stercus Polito", which Google Translate assures me is the Latin for "Polished Turds". This basically affirms your previous comment about the sculpts not being particularly inspired. :D

The halflings are there because there's talk of an all-Human sideline comp in MBBL (with player trading between games/rounds), and to make it slightly more interesting, Halflings have been added to the roster. You can see a draft of the team list here. And even if that doesn't fly, I can still use one of them as Puggy.

Of course, in order to get the most out of halflings, I'm going to need an Ogre! I've ordered this guy from maxmini.eu, and am still waiting on him to arrive.

I love the scuplt, and he should hopefully convert very nicely...

Beautiful paintjob, mate! Looks fantastic. I've long been a fan of those models, I like the simplicity of the design, you're instantly able to tell them apart even if you're not familiar with the models - something that's not actually true of the later edition metals.

I just followed your link through to the page with the 'test human roster' and... well, is that not really broken? Unless I'm missing something huge here you can start with three "trainee" blitzers (linemen with +1 MA and S access), four actual blitzers, a thrower and three discounted Ogres (dropping 50k for the sake of mighty blow and a TTM option they wouldn't normally have anyway). For my money that's crazy good value.

There was interest in running a side Human Only league and one way that was thought of to encourage trading was for each team to have training squads. Trainees wouldn't necessarily be available for games and the rule set is still under development.

The ogre looks good, and does appear to be an easy convert. The bags on his hips may be the only thing to cause any grief but even then it should only require a little bit of green stuff filling, it depends on wether or not the left hand is connected to the bag as to how much work is in it.

I couldn't agree more, you can pick the various positions out at a glance, the last metal gw team while nice mini's are just to similar in appearance to one another imo.

The Ogre arrived in time for Christmas, and went straight to the craft bench for conversion. Very happy with the scale, he fits quite nicely on a 30mm base.

He's now up and standing, with quite a bit of space-y paraphernalia removed, and looking a little the worse for wear. I'll leave him to dry tonight, and then build him back up with a more Blood Bowl-themed set of shoulder pads and helmet.

Oh, yeah - Happy New Year, everyone! :)

Cheers, Viking.

Phase 1 of operation "don't mind me, I'm just an ordinary Human Lineman" completed.

Phase 1, looks outstanding Birdman, and I have no doubt the 'additional ordinary lineman' will compliment the appearance (as well as the performance) of your team, looking forward to seeing more

great work!!

Cheers, Cannoneer!

Phase 2 completed - added right shoulder pad with embossed eagle, as well as eagle insignia to his belt buckle and the brow of his helmet. Could have turned out better (they look more like chicken than eagles), but it could also have turned out much worse, so I'm happy enough with the job. If nothing else, this exercise has given me no end of respect for miniature scuptors who can actually do a good job of it!

You calling my team chicken shit, Moraiwe? Is it weird that I found your suggestion highly amusing, but also worth serious consideration?

Anyway, final phase completed - face guard (a.k.a. a bit of bent copper wire), and elbow greaves. Now, there's absolutely no visible difference between him and a regular human lineman!

... yep, none whatsoever. That'll fool the opposition no end!

Absolutely fantastic conversion work - nicely done! I look forward to a similar level of paintwork on the ogre to your test thrower. Excellent to see it developing.
