Lightning Filth - Skaven team plog

Post by birdman37 »

Woo-hoo! These boys arrived in the mail today:
Image

I've had a couple of false starts with trying to get a Skaven team up and running in the past, so the arrival of a proper metal set of little rats (for a not-too-eye-watering price) has got me fairly excited. Anyway, this post is just to mark the arrival date of the miniatures, let's see how long it takes until the next post where I've actually done something with them, shall we? :)

PS. I've heard Skaven can be quite squishy, so if anyone happens to have a spare couple of 3rd edition Linerats (or an extra Thrower, or even the remaining mutants) lying around that they're willing to part with for a fair price, please PM me and let's get them adopted into a safe, warm and loving home! ;)

Expect at least one death per game. It's what I'm averaging at the moment...

First update! The boys have completed their acetone baths, and are being sized up for bases.

We've also had a defector join the team from the distant, recently obliterated town of Mordheim. He's a strapping young lad all right, but a bit threadbare. We'll fix him up with a shoulder pad and helmet, and then he'll no doubt cut an impressive figure on the pitch.

Headsplitter assembled.

Damn, but these Rat Ogres really know how to loom. Definitely gonna need some prone/stunned markers, no way these lads are fitting nicely on a pitch while lying down.

We interrupt this plog to bring you a word from our sponsor:

Birdman's pro tips

Tip #1: Stand up straight, you rat bastard!
WARNING: works on metal miniatures only
Have your players gone for a big night out on the warp-juice, perhaps celebrating their brand-spanking-new mutation? Are they finding it hard to stand up straight and get glued properly to their bases?
Image

Well, worry no more, we have the cure for you! All you need is a pair of pliers. Watch with delight as your player winces when you grip him tightly between the legs...
Image

And gently, but firmly, give a little twist. Twist enough to leave a kink - but not too much! The last thing this world needs is overly kinky rats...
Image

Now that you've woken him up, ram him back in the base, and voilà! A nice, firm, rigid stance, ready for gluing.

Thanks for reading, we now return you to your regularly scheduled plog! And remember, if it hasn't been painted by Birdman, then it hasn't been painted! ;)

A useful tip (about the bases) ! I know I find gluing players into bases a pain. Sometimes I've had to bend the player at the point of contact with the 'slotta' _after_ gluing - a risky process.

Oh - and it is probably worth noting the technique works for metal minis! (I can imagine someone trying it with a resin mini and complaining when it snaps! ;) )

Duly noted, Babs - I've edited the post.

Lots of green stuff work completed tonight, mostly used as a "gap filler" on the underside of the slotta bases. I'm aware that it's bordering on obsessive compulsive behaviour, but short of falling in another jar of acetone, these guys are not getting separated from their bases!

It wasn't all boring gap-filling, however - Lipstick onna Rat phase II now completed! A ridge on the shoulder pad, and a helmet (of sorts).

Phase III will be spikes - lots of spikes!

Would I lie to you? The supports for the spikes have been drilled and glued in. I may have overdone it a bit on the length, though...

Nothing exceeds like excess, Birdy.

This project is fascinating viewing, and I do love the raising from the dead of the marvelous Mordheim ROgre, but yeah - those 3 shoulder spikes are very very long.

I would like to see a (partial)skeleton skewered upon those spikes.

That's definitely cool, but I was hoping for the bones to be entangled.. as if the guy died upon the spikes and was just left there to rot.
